Treco Steel - steel lintels, galvanised steel, structural steel

By the Way!

By the way, Above and Beyond Concept’s Pro-Series lintels are manufactured to comply with both the Building and Masonry Codes of Australia.

By the way, the staff at Treco Steel are not professional engineers. We do not specify lintels or any other structural steel sections to be used in any situation. We will let you know what is available but the builder needs to make sure that the lintel to be supplied will do the job. Beware of steel suppliers who specify sections without the appropriate professional qualifications and indemnity insurance. When in doubt, builders need to consult a structural engineer.

By the way, all lintels supplied by Treco Steel are hot-dip galvanized in accordance with the Australian Standard for Hot-dip Galvanized (zinc) coatings on fabricated ferrous articles. The impact resistance of the galvanized coating complies with Australian Standard for built-in components for masonry construction. The durability rating of the protective coating is R3 and all ABC Pro-Series Lintels are marked as demanded by the standard.

However, where lintels are installed in areas of severe marine environment (i.e. up to 100 mtrs from a non-surf coastline or up to 1 km from a surf coastline), a corrosion resistance rating of R4 is required. To meet the R4 Durability Classification, either of the following options should be taken:

  1. The use of stainless steel sections of specific grades, OR
  2. Apply a two pack epoxy coating such as Jotacote 605 to hot-dip galvanised (R3) lintels.
As usual, a structural engineer will guide the builder in this process.

By the way, Treco Steel also supplies merchant and structural steel sections such as angles, flat bars, hollow sections, Universal Beams (UB's), Parallel Flange Channels (PFC's), Universal Columns (UC's) and Rolled Steel Joists (RSJ's). Treco Steel can organise cutting, drilling, priming and galvanising of merchant and structural sections. However, Treco Steel does not carry out any welding.
